James R. Hedges, IV

 

James R. Hedges, IV is one of the early leaders in the hedge fund and alternative investments industry, and is the author of Hedges on Hedge Funds, published by Wiley Finance. He is the Founder, President, and Chief Investment Officer of LJH Global Investments, LLC, an alternative investment advisory firm based in Naples, Florida, and the Chairman of LJH Financial Marketing Strategies in Florida and New York.

Mr. Hedges graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1985 and from Rhodes College in 1989 with a dual Bachelor of Arts in French and International Studies. While in college, Mr. Hedges' career began in the international sales department of Dunavant Enterprises, Inc., the world's largest private cotton merchant.  Mr. Hedges also worked at the Chicago Board of Trade.  He earned a Master of International Management with a focus on Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management at the Phoenix, Arizona Thunderbird campus.

From 1991 to mid-1992, Mr. Hedges lived in Paris and served as Director of European Sales for J.D. Honigberg International, a Chicago-based global trading firm. Prior to founding LJH Global Investments, Mr. Hedges founded and served as Managing General Partner for Challenger Capital Management, L.P., a multi-manager private family partnership investing in various alternative investments. Concurrently, Mr. Hedges was associated with the economic research and consulting firm of A.B. Laffer, V.A. Canto & Associates in La Jolla, California.

In 2002, Mr. Hedges attended the World Economic Forum in New York. He has also participated in The Wharton/Spencer Stuart Directors' Institute and Directors' Forum at The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania in 1997, The Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School in 2001, and seminars at The Aspen Institute in Aspen, Colorado. He has passed the NASD Series 2,3,7 and 63 exams.

Mr. Hedges is one of the most often quoted experts on alternative investing in the world, is often cited in financial publications including Forbes, Institutional Investor, The New York Times, Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg. He also is on the Advisory Board of The Journal of Wealth Management, published by Institutional Investor, is a member of the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies and Lexington’s Who’s Who, and is an honorary member of The Foreign Correspondents Club.

The Securities and Exchange Commission invited Mr. Hedges to participate in its two hedge fund industry roundtables. Additionally, he was the first fund of hedge funds expert ever invited to speak to the Bank of Japan’s executives, and he speaks frequently at leading wealth management and investment industry conferences.  Mr. Hedges has also been invited to speak to the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance as well as the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development. 

Named by Art and Antiques magazine as one of "The Top 100 Collectors in America," Mr. Hedges is an active supporter of the visual arts and performing arts around the world. He is a Director of the Dia Center for Arts in New York, and The National Public Radio Foundation (NPR).  He is also President of The Hedges Family Charitable Foundation.
